I love to know what makes things ‘tick’. When I look at a doll, I see all of the subsets of creativity that swirl together to make the doll wonderful. Things like the person who makes (or pours) the perfect porcelain or the person who makes eyes to give just the right facial expression. How about the people that make wigs, earrings, shoes or clothes (ooh, don’t get me started on costumes). From a philosophical point of view, I am interested in what draws us to a particular area of the doll & teddy bear world. From a practical point of view I love the final form and visualize how the doll or teddy bear would fit into my collection. I consider myself a ‘generalist’ so I pretty much love and appreciate all dolls & teddy bears and the events where they can be found. This Newsletter issue is devoted to a few great events and where to find them.
Let’s start with Crossroads Events. Our team’s dedication is to serving all genres in the doll and teddy bear world with a broad spectrum of items available for collectors, creators and enthusiasts of all ages. Based on recent feedback, the DOLLS4ALL website Home page has changed to include the next 3 months of our shows as well as pictures from recent shows. Our next event is one of the most popular:
Saturday, March 12 10AM to 4PM (early birds at 8:30AM)
Sunday, March 13 10AM to 3PM
Washington State Fairgrounds, 110 9th Ave SW (enter at the Gold gate) EXPO HALL
Puyallup, WA 98371 (click here for more details)
Let’s take a look at a different and fun genre.
Our BJD friends in the Northwest are celebrating their 5th anniversary with a special three-day BJD Comicon hosted by the Pacific NorthWest Ball-Jointed Doll Expo. Activities begin Friday evening, May 20 and continue through Sunday, May 22; located at the Clearwater Conference Center & Casino Resort 15347 Suquamish Way NE Suquamish, WA 98392. Click here for details. The list of programs, workshop and artists is impressive. I plan on attending to learn more about this interesting and growing segment of the doll world.
A word about getaways. Who doesn’t love a roadtrip to go somewhere new and different? Getaways are perfect for that. Scheduled dolly/teddy activities and sales floor for a couple of days, combined with outside adventures like tours or entertainment – could be just what you need!
This is the concept of the Crossroads team for our event in Albuquerque, NM. It is a registered participant event that includes event activities with souvenirs by Kish, Marca, Marilyn Selbee and more. For details and registration, click here.
So where do you find out about events in your area? I received the following letter from Karen Kosies, Founder and Developer of DollShowUSA – I publish it here because this is a great resource that has my full endorsement!
